On choosing growth over repetition
There is something different about this one.
Maybe because, for the first time, I am not writing from the middle of the storm.
The pain is still here.
My chest still feels heavy.
I still wake up wishing things had unfolded differently.
But something has changed.
I am no longer asking life to undo what happened.
Instead, I am asking myself why I keep arriving at the same destination.
Because I can finally see that some patterns have been following me for years.
I wish I hadn't hurt people.
I wish I hadn't hurt myself.
There are conversations I wish I had sooner.
Truths I wish I had admitted earlier.
Versions of myself I wish I had understood before asking someone else to understand them.
I cannot change any of that now.
But I can decide what happens next.
For a long time, I thought growth happened naturally.
That time would somehow fix everything.
That experience alone would make me wiser.
It doesn't.
Not unless you stop.
Not unless you are willing to sit with the uncomfortable parts of yourself.
To ask difficult questions.
To stay there long enough to hear the answers.
Because I feel something strange.
I am calm.
Not because everything is okay.
It isn't.
But because, for the first time in a long time, I know where my energy needs to go.
Not into another relationship.
Not into another city.
Not into another distraction.
Into me.
Into building a foundation before trying to build anything else.
I don't want to keep carrying unfinished work into the lives of people I love.
That isn't fair to them.
And it isn't fair to me.
So yes, I surrender.
Not to sadness.
Not to failure.
But to the process.
I surrender to becoming someone different.
I don't want this pain to be wasted.
I want it to become the moment where everything slowly started changing.
I don't believe I am incapable of love.
Actually, I think I love too much.
I have always had so much love to give.
The problem wasn't the love.
It was that I hadn't yet learned how to carry it.
I hadn't learned how to carry myself.
No one else can do that work for me.
No relationship can replace it.
No amount of love can heal what I refuse to face.
Only I can.
Maybe that is why this lesson had to hurt so much.
Not because I deserved the pain.
But because I finally became willing to listen.
Life teaches us.
Sometimes gently.
Sometimes by breaking our hearts.
Sometimes by showing us the consequences of our own actions.
The lesson is never the pain itself.
The lesson is what we choose to do after it.
I know this won't change overnight.
Patterns built over years don't disappear because of one difficult week.
But they can begin to change.
One decision at a time.
One honest conversation at a time.
One uncomfortable truth at a time.
I am hurting.
I probably will be for a while.
But somewhere underneath all that grief, something else has appeared.
Hope.
The quiet kind.
The kind that doesn't shout.
The kind that simply whispers,
"Start here."
I don't know who I will become.
But I know who I don't want to be anymore.
And I think...
that is a good place to begin.
